Summer stock riser Tyrese Haliburton schedules four official visits
Heading into the summer, 2018 Oshkosh (WI) North combo guard Tyrese Haliburton was a priority for many mid-major programs in the Midwest. However, after a strong finish to the July evaluation periods with Wisconsin United, the 6-foot-5 guard now finds himself with a handful of high-major suitors.
While he holds several scholarship offers, it looks like Haliburton is focusing on four schools right now: Cincinnati, Iowa State, Nebraska, and Northern Iowa. He has scholarship offers and has set official visits to each of the four schools.
- Nebraska: September 1-3
- Iowa State: September 28-30
- Northern Iowa: October 13-15
- Cincinnati: October 20-22
A long, lanky guard capable of playing both guard spots, Haliburton was one of the standouts from the Powerade Platform circuit stop in Nashville at the end of May. He is very intriguing with his skill-set and upside. The senior has extended range behind the three-point line and has no problem shooting over the defense. However, the most intriguing part of his game comes with his potential as a point guard. Very similar to Michael Carter-Williams, Haliburton is a talented passer with excellent vision. The Wisconsin native is a productive player now, but his best basketball is on the horizon.
Haliburton broke down the four schools he plans to take official visits to with HoopSeen.com:
Nebraska: "I love the staff from Nebraska as well as the fact that they play in the Big 10. Being from Wisconsin, you grow up wanting to play in the Big 10, so it's a really big deal."
Iowa State: "Iowa State is another staff that I love. Coach [Steve] Prohm has a real good reputation with point guards like Isaiah Cannan, Cameron Payne, and most recently, Monte Morris. It's a place that I know I can thrive and play in a real good conference like the Big 12."
Northern Iowa: "Northern Iowa has recruited me the longest and I'm probably closest with that staff. They just got a commitment from A.J. Green and I know he's a great player and we could be a real nice backcourt."
Cincinnati: "Cincinnati has a great staff and they play a way that fits me really well. They really preach player development to me and all the success they've had, so they're really intriguing."
With the recent string of high-major schools entering the picture, Haliburton's recruitment has changed drastically. Nevertheless, Northern Iowa has done a nice job of holding firm in the picture. Haliburton made a trip to campus for an unofficial visit at the end of June. While things have changed, Northern Iowa is definitely in the picture and will be a factor going forward.
