Jared Sherfield trending upward heading into evaluation periods
The last month has been an exciting one for 2018 Tuscaloosa (AL) Paul Bryant point guard Jared Sherfield. In early March, the 6-foot-4 guard led his high school team to a state championship. During that playoff run, the talented guard earned his first scholarship offer.
Shortly after dishing out seven assists in Bryant's state championship win over Parker, Sherfield picked up an official scholarship offer from Tennessee Tech. In the semi-final game, he had one of the most impressive games of the state tournament, scoring 23 points in a tight game against Austin.
"I'm thankful for my first offer from Tennessee Tech, but I don't want that one to be the end. Hopefully they keep rolling in," Sherfield told HoopSeen.com.
Sherfield has continued to build off of his success late in the high school season. His name continues to draw traction with college programs, and his performance this weekend at the Southern Spring Invitational in Birmingham was nothing short of impressive, either.
With his Team Carroll Premier team down by 12 points in the event's championship game to Team Thad, Sherfield closed things out with 13 straight points to lead Carroll Premier to an improbable comeback win. He hit back-to-back 3's and followed with a strong and-1 finish at the rim to mount the comeback. He then closed things out at the free-throw line to seal the victory.
At 6-foot-4, Sherfield has tremendous size at the point guard position. He can play both guard spots with his ball skills and shooting ability. His feel for the game and IQ is evident, too. Sherfield's best basketball is ahead of him with his upside and potential.
Sherfield currently ranks as the No. 13 overall prospect in our 2018 Alabama state rankings. However, he could make a jump into the top 10 when the rankings are updated next week.
As expected, many schools will follow him during the April evaluation periods. Several schools are already showing high interest.
"Lipscomb, UAB, Samford, Charleston Southern, Austin Peay, and Arkansas are some of the schools showing interest right now."
With a couple of productive stops in Dallas and Atlanta on the adidas Gauntlet circuit later this month, that list could grow exponentially for Sherfield. He is a guy trending upward that should receive considerable attention as the travel season unfolds.
