Malik Burnett flips commitment to Troy, plans to sign Wednesday
Following an official visit to Longwood last weekend, 2017 Lee-Huntsville (AL) shooting guard Malik Burnett made his commitment to the Lancers before leaving campus. However, after returning home and thinking things over, the scorer has flipped his commitment to in-state program Troy.
"I got up to Longwood and rushed my decision," Burnett told HoopSeen.com following Lee-Huntsville's loss to Spain Park at the Von Braun Center Monday evening. "Troy is the best fit for me all-around."
"The coaching staff believes in me being able to come in and contribute immediately as a freshman. It's also only three hours away from home, so that makes a big difference, too."
Troy head coach Phil Cunningham and his staff tracked Burnett closely during the July live periods. The Trojans didn't miss a game at Best of the South. They were also one of the first schools to meet with him in September to begin the fall recruiting period.
"Coach Cunningham says that I am everything he is looking for in a guard with my scoring, athleticism, and ability to run a team. I'm excited for his plans for me," Burnett explained.
Burnett will join Decatur (AL) Austin wing Javan Johnson and Central Florida Christian Academy forward De'Lazarus Keys in Troy's 2017 recruiting class upon his Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Burnett and Johnson are very familiar with each other.
"I'm really excited to be able to play with Javan. We can be a great duo at Troy. He's an effective player and a unique talent. We will be able to open things up for each other."
