St. Louis sneaks another one in with Hasahn French

The new head coach at St. Louis, Travis Ford, has never been one to struggle on the recruiting front. Whether it was during his time at UMass or throughout his stint at Oklahoma State, the former Kentucky basketball star was able to coach some major talent. Now in the A10, Ford came up with another coup on Monday morning coming in the form of 6-foot-6 combo forward Hasahn French.

One of the strongest and well-built players in the high school ranks, Hasahn French has cut his teeth on his ability to outplay his opponents around the basket, but has the skillset in facing his man up and making the appropriate play out of the high post setting. Where the new era of basketball has valued the tweener forward, which is the undersized power forward, French’s time is now.

Attending Commonwealth Academy this winter, the New York native has been a name for some time now. Thanks to his consistent mindset, hard playing nature, college ready body, and his ability to play to his strengths, French has kept his name afloat within the best of his class. He can produce within the taller trees near the basket due to his explosiveness and strength, can rebound the ball in traffic, and has become much more consistent out of the high post setting.

Running on the Nike EYBL circuit this past summer with the PSA Cardinals program, while French does have to work on his foul shot where he converted under 40-percent of his attempts, he was a model of efficiency below  the arc making over half of his tries. Averaging over eight points and eight rebounds in less than 23 minutes of action, French should be someone that steps in day one at St. Louis and immediately sets the tone from 15-feet and in.

Beating out the likes of Marquette, UMass, and UNLV for the productive senior, French joins top-60 wing-forward Jordan Goodwin in creating an excellent core to build upon further. While the cupboard is a bit bare, expect for French and Goodwin to be the reason for the basketball renaissance under the Arch in the coming years.
