Ashton Hagans recaps UK visit, updates recruitment
2019 Newton (GA) point guard Ashton Hagans, one of the top dogs in the Southeast in 2019, was on full display Sunday at Suwanee Sports Academy for the Elite Fall Preview Underclassmen camp.
Hagans showed his dominance early and often, as he proved he was one of the top players in attendance. The 6-foot-4 playmaker was named to our Super Six top performers from the event.
What was the most impressive thing about Hagans’ performance at camp? The fact that he spent the two prior days on an unofficial visit to Kentucky for their midnight madness festivities.
“Kentucky was amazing,” Hagans told HoopSeen.com. “The facilities are top-notch. It’s Kentucky.”
While Kentucky head coach John Calipari is focused on a formidable 2017 recruiting class, Hagans and his father had the chance to speak with him briefly.
“Coach Calipari told us he liked my game and if I wanted to go to the NBA and feed my family one day, this would be the place for me.”
Hagans was also blown away by the outstanding fan support from Big Blue Nation. With more than 20,000 people in attendance for a glorified practice, the sophomore guard left campus very impressed.
“It was awesome. My favorite part was when we (the recruits) walked on the court to our seats and all the fans started going crazy. It was wild,” he explained.
Kentucky is one of many high-level programs that have already identified the young Hagans. Wichita State, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Louisville, Kansas, Florida, Florida State, LSU, and Tennessee are among the schools involved.
In addition to Kentucky, Hagans has made short trips to Georgia and Tennessee for unofficial visits this fall. He will go to Auburn Saturday for their football game against Arkansas. He is also planning a return trip back to the Bluegrass State.
“I’m visiting Auburn this weekend, then I’m planning on visiting Louisville soon, too.”
