D'Shawn Schwartz remains in-state, commits to Colorado

The state of Colorado isn’t one known for its premier basketball talent. When a top tier college prospect inhabits the state, Tad Boyle and their crew in Boulder are more than likely to pursue hastily. Today, all of the early attention and consistent pursuit of D’Shawn Schwartz paid dividends in landing his verbal commitment.

A 6-foot-6 small forward that first made a name for himself two years ago at the USA Basketball trials in his hometown of Colorado Springs, Schwartz is a fantastic addition for the Pac 12 bunch. Programs like Butler, Texas, Stanford and a few others pursued but the groundwork that Colorado laid down early on was just too much for others to overcome.

Playing with the talented and well coached KC Run GMC bunch on the Under Armour circuit this past spring and summer, Schwartz was capable of showing off his immense versatility and toughness. Someone that should be seen as an elite, utility wing-forward that touches ever part of the final stat sheet, his averages might not wow anyone, but they are solid and consistent.

Averaging over 10 points off of 49-percent shooting from the field, the Sand Creek High standout is capable of rebounding the ball within traffic, making the proper pass off of the limited dribble attack to the basket, and defending the shooting guard, small forward, or power forward position on the floor.

The first commitment in the 2017 class for Colorado, Schwartz is someone that should be expected to contribute immediately during his stint in Boulder. While not an electric scorer of the ball, it is his broad skillset and egoless approach that will be welcomed from day one in suiting up for his home-state crew beginning next fall.
