Clemson scoops up Aamir Simms
The persistence paid off in favor of the Clemson Tigers today in landing 6-foot-8 power forward Aamir Simms. A top-100 recruit that had a coming out party this past summer on the travel and camp circuit, the ACC program should be excited about landing a ready-made big man that rebounds the basketball at a high rate.
A product of the talented Team Loaded VA program, Simms is a great pick-up for Brad Brownell’s crew at Clemson. The Blue Ridge School star was a relatively well-known name throughout the Mid-Atlantic these past few years but it was this past spring and summer that the high energy forward put things in top gear.
During his time at the NBPA Top-100 Camp in June, a five-day event bringing together some of the top prospects regardless of classification, Simms was a demon on the glass. He led the entire event in rebounds and during one outing, came up with over 20 boards in less than 25 minutes of action. Hence, this is exactly what the staff at Clemson should expect from Simms: an immediate force down low that isn’t afraid to bang around in pursuit of the 50-50 ball.
A solid high-low big man that can score over his left shoulder on the jump hook shot, Simms does have to further his 15-foot jumper along with his off-hand in the lane. However, he should pair nicely alongside Malik William, another 6-foot-8 commit that has become known for his passing abilities. Due to the versatility of each, expect for William and Simms to share the floor together in the frontcourt over the next four years under the tutelage of Brad Brownell and his coaching staff.
The third commitment in the 2017 class for the Tigers, the frontcourt duo joins AJ Oliver, a high upside and super talented guard from the state of South Carolina that enrolled early and is taking a redshirt year this fall.
