Iowa State lands first 2017 commitment with Terrance Lewis
Iowa State, with the upcoming losses of Naz Long, Matt Thomas, and Monte Morris after this upcoming season, is in desperate need of play makers that can immediately step in and play a part come the 2017-2018 college basketball season. On Tuesday, the Big 12 program restocked the cupboard some with the commitment of 6-foot- 5 wing Terrance Lewis.
A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lewis gave his verbal commitment to Steve Prohm and his crew at his local high school, Riverside High. A hard-nosed wing that has been known for his slashing skills and abilities at the basket, Lewis has deeply reworked his jumper in past months where it is now a weapon that must be accounted for each time down the floor. He has also improved his handles and passing skills as the Wisconsin Playground Elite product can create for not just himself, but for others on the drive to the basket.
Defensively, Lewis sports a 6-foot-9 wingspan and a body that has begun to fill out nicely. He is a guy that doesn’t shy away from contact or any form of physicality on the playing floor. The senior wing is someone that should be leaned upon for his energy levels from day one, versatility on the defensive end, and scoring abilities from 15-feet and in.
While others such as UNLV, Marquette, and Illinois remained in the hunt for Lewis, it was the staff’s persistency in Ames and the need for him that won out at the end of the day. “I am just being loyal,” he stated. “They showed me a lot of love through the process of my recruitment and have been there for me 100-percent.”
Looking ahead, the need for instant minutes is on the line for Lewis, a calling that he is more than excited for. “I mean, just getting the opportunity to come in and play as a freshman was big,” the improving wing stated. “I am going to keep working hard and just show the coaches that I am here and ready to work.”
The first commitment in the 2017 for the Cyclones, Iowa State will remain heavy in the hunt for more potential immediate producers as they have official visits lined up already for speedy guard Darius McNeill and versatile forward Keyshawn Feazell. Others that they remain in the mix for include Lindell Wigginton, Alex O’Connell, Donnie Tillman, Teddy Allen, Aamir Simms, Jericho Sims, and Isaiah Stokes, a crop of prospects that they hope to grab more than one of in the coming weeks.
