NBPA Top 100 Spotlight: Darius Perry
In a camp setting, the scorers seem to get the spotlight. That’s understandable. But the guys that erase the opposition from the scorebook, well, those guys are just as exciting, too. For Marietta (GA) Wheeler guard Darius Perry, he shined in both settings at the NBPA Top 100 Camp.
Perry was one of the more complete guards in the guard-strong event in Charlottesville. He was among the top passers and dribble attackers at the camp.
His on-court value has caught the attention of a number of schools and his recruitment is starting to really take shape. Perry told reporters that he’s looking at Georgia, Louisville and Texas A&M. Louisville just offered a scholarship on Tuesday.
“I’ve been watching Louisville for a long time. I really like them a lot,” Perry said. “I like how they let their guards and I like (Rick) Pitino and I’m really excited about them.”
He said he’d like to go on a visit to Louisville soon but nothing is set up at this point. A visit to Texas A&M should come this summer, too, Perry said. Georgia has hosted Perry for visits and games and the Bulldogs are in there deep with the Atlanta area star.
“I have a good relationship with the head coach, they are right around the corner from home and they do a lot of good stuff with their guards,” Perry said of the Bulldogs. “J.J. Frazier and Charles Mann have done good things there…They’ve been on me from the start.”
Will location play a part in his decision?
“It is going to be really big factor. (Georgia) is right around the corner from my home and I know my family does want to see me play. I’m really thinking about that.”
While this trio of schools is in there deep, Perry said he’s keeping an open mind moving forward during the recruiting process.
“I’m trying to find the school that best fits me and the school where I feel the most comfortable,” Perry said. “I’m definitely open to more schools. I’m just waiting to see who else comes around.”
