NBA Top 100 Spotlight: Donnie Tillman

Detroit native Donnie Tillman came to the NBPA Top 100 Camp with the right approach - just work hard and let things fall into place.

The 6-foot-7 forward from Findlay Prep (NV) has played with a blue collar approach at the camp and the result is his production as a scorer and rebounder. After three games, Tillman is the second leading scorer (14 ppg) and second leading rebounder (8.7 rpg).

“My coach told me to always have a high motor. He told me to never give up on a play,” Tillman said. “A lot of guys think that you don’t have to play with a high motor or dive or play defense, especially in a camp setting. I think that is something that I can bring to the game.

“That’s the easiest way to get more minutes, to get more points. I have a great team full of guards. Our team here is really small so I knew that I’m going to have to rebound. I’m perfectly fine with that.”

Taking the Draymond Green approach the game, Tillman is using his versatility to open eyes.

“I’m just a ballplayer. If you throw me on the wing, I’ll make plays. If you throw me in the paint, I’ll make plays,” Tillman said.

To date, Tillman said he is hearing the most from Iowa State, USC, Boston College, Cal and Marquette.

After finishing the travel season with Dream Vision on the adidas circuit, Tillman said he would like to officially visit Marquette and USC.

“I’m looking to play right away. I think I can impact the game as soon as I come in as a freshman,” Tillman said. “The most important thing is this - I have to know the coaches. I can’t just go in there blind. I need to know them.”
