Anfernee Simons hits next level status
Anfernee Simons has become a well-known name throughout the state of Florida this winter and spring and now is beginning to see his stock blossom into a national recruitment. The 6-foot-3 combo guard has laid his hat on his vast scoring prowess while improving his now bouncy body type at the basket. The Team Breakdown guard recapped his recent visit to Louisville while he eyes a trip to Florida on Friday.
Playing on the Team Breakdown 16-under squad last summer as a member of the 2017 class, Simons displayed some upside and potential as a shot making guard that could also slide over onto the ball as a facilitator. Now part of the 2018 class and having grown an inch where the rising junior is a lot more athletic than in previous viewings, programs such as Virginia Tech, UCF, and USF have long been in contention for the Sunshine State native.
This month, things have gone to the next level with the Edgewater High star as Simons rolled in offers from Louisville, Oklahoma State, and Florida. This past weekend, Simons and his travel teammate, top-25 guard Elijah Weaver, took a trip to the ACC program. “I love it. It was a great visit,” the Breakdown product stated about the Louisville basketball program. “They were just telling me how I am the perfect fit for them.”
Leading the entire UAA 16-under circuit in scoring at nearly 23 points per contest, averaging over three points more than his closest competitor, the number-49 ranked prospect is set on visiting Florida for an unofficial on Friday, this being his last trip planned before the evaluation periods begin the following week. “I like Florida,” Simmons said. “They seem nice over there. We will see Friday.”
Expect for a multitude of offers to roll in further for the premier scorer of the basketball as Simons continues to round out his game in becoming a guy that can pass it, shoot it, and defend, though it does seem like two programs have stood out with the product out of the 2018 class. “Mainly Florida and Louisville,” Simons replied when broached on the subject as to who he has been hearing from the most often.
Regardless, look for Simons to round out his game as a facilitator while he continues to throw up large amounts of points on the scoreboard for his Team Breakdown bunch this July.
