March to Macon: Five Second-Round Games to Watch in 2A/A-DI/A-DII

The first round of the state tournament is in the books. Now that we know who’s advancing, here are five 7A matchups to look forward to.

Mount Pisgah at Darlington: These have been top-shelf A-DI teams all season long. This is one of the many second-round games that feels more like a final four game. The winner of this one will be heavily favored to make it out of this side of the bracket.

Christian Heritage at Macon County: This is a battle between North Georgia and Middle Georgia that should generate attention from the Atlanta metro. Christian Heritage is the favorite to make it to Macon from the right side of the bracket, but Macon County is riding a 23-game winning streak and could bring Macon County into Macon city.

North Cobb Christian at Providence Christian: This is the game in 2A’s second round that intrigues the most. These have been two of the classification’s most stout teams this season, and they could very well be contenders to make it to Macon. A battle between the winner of this game and the winner of Butler at Spencer will be incredible.

Butler at Spencer: Butler made a surprise run to the 2A championship game a season ago, and Spencer won the 4A championship a season ago. This one could determine the final four participant from this side of the bracket. The winner of this will have to get through the winner of North Cobb Christian and Providence Christian which will make for an incredible game.

Sumter County at Westside-Augusta: Westside is the favorite to make it to the final four out of this quadrant, and there’s a case to be made for them as 2A favorites in general. Sumter County is a solid team that could thwart the Patriots’ quest to go back-to-back. While it would be an upset, it shouldn’t be a surprise if Sumter County emerges on the other side.
