NCAA eligibility adjustments for the 2020 class
Major news has come from the NCAA membership as they have partnered with the NCAA eligibility center to make changes for this upcoming season. Given the unique circumstances that face prospects in the 2020 class, the NCAA has implemented a new certification process in regards to those prospects academic requirements. For those that expect to enroll during the 2020-21 season, here are the modifications that will be applied going forward.
Division I
"Meet the core-course progression requirement for NCAA-approved core courses(10 core units, seven of which must be in English, math or science) before start of the seventh semester; and present a 2.3 or higher course GPA in such courses."
Division II
"Complete 10 NCAA approved core course units before start of the seventh semester; Present a 2.2 or higher core-course GPA in such courses."
"Test scores are excluded from these requirements due to cancellations of SAT/ACT tests this spring. These waivers will begin to be applied on May 1st."
These changes were made to provide added flexibility to those student athletes that may have been impacted by the unfortunate turn of events. From a recruiting standpoint, the prospects that have turned to the prep or juco route due to a lack of test scores may now have the ability to change course to the four year route.
