Liberty lands early pledge from Brody Peebles

2021 Hartselle (AL) combo guard Brody Peebles made his verbal pledge to Liberty and head coach Ritchie McKay on Tuesday evening, he told HoopSeen.com.

"Liberty is a no brainer for me. God put it on my heart above all else," Peebles said following his commitment. "Coach McKay has believed in me from the start and pushed me to what he thought I could be. He is an unbelievable man of God and what he can do for me past basketball is unmatched."

McKay was in attendance to see Peebles play on Monday night and is just the latest time he and his staff have been in to see the 6-foot-2 scoring guard. An assistant watched him play last week.

Liberty identified Peebles as a priority prospect early in the spring and they never looked back. Between McKay and assistant coach Derek Johnston, the Flames prioritized and recruited the junior as hard as anyone over the past few months. Johnston also played a big part in Peebles' recruitment because of his time at UA-Huntsville before he made the jump to Liberty.

With his commitment, Peebles and the Flames make an ideal fit, both on and off the court.

"Liberty is a place where I can grow on the court as well as off. Their system fits me perfectly and what I'm about as a person. Coach McKay thinks I can come out and make an impact early with my ability to play make and score the basketball. I would be used as a combo guard that can come out and make plays for myself and others.

Peebles has had an impressive start to his junior campaign. After scoring 40 points in his season opener, he has not looked back. He has consistently scored in the neighborhood of 30 points per game while also creating opportunities for his teammates.

Before making his decision, Peebles was drawing interest from some of the top mid-major programs in the country. He also considered Belmont, Lipscomb, North Alabama, Samford, Wofford, UNC-Wilmington, and UAB.

Peebles is Liberty's first pledge in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
