Tristan Maxwell Headed to the ACC
We released our top available players by position in North Carolina for the 2020 class last week, here. Tristan Maxwell, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Huntersville (NC) North Mecklenburg High School is the first off the board from our five best available list.
Maxwell is headed to Atlanta, Georgia for his college basketball career to play for Head Coach Josh Pastner and The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Maxwell has been around the pro game his whole life. His father, Vernon Maxwell spent 13 seasons in the NBA and his Team Charlotte head coach Jeff McInnis spent 12 seasons playing in the league.
HoopSeen’s Justin Young watched Maxwell at the NBA Top 100 camp back in June and has some high praise for the shooting guard who led the camp in three-pointers made.
“Tristan Maxwell can score some points. If you follow North Carolina HS hoops, you know this. The son of former NBA player Vernon Maxwell, the class of 2020 guard took full advantage of the invite to the big summer platform. He led the camp in three-point filed goals made. He also took the most shots overall and from three. But he made ‘em when he shot ‘em. He was also a solid PG when he was called on for that role. “ - Justin Young
With Maxwell, Georgia Tech is getting a guard that is an elite scorer, a really good shooter and a player that has a high basketball IQ and understanding of the game. He will bring versatility at the combo guard spot and be able to play either the point or the off-guard spot.
Maxwell held offers from Temple, Georgetown, Ole Miss, Pitt, Texas A&M, St. Louis, Gonzaga, South Florida, Providence and NC State.
