Super Regional day 1 notebook

Sports Academy South - Alex Aviles

The 14U Georgia Stars found themselves up 29 points to start the fourth quarter of their Saturday evening matchup with Sports Academy South. That lead would not last, as Alex Aviles had an absolutely insane second half for SAS. Aviles is small and quick, with a tight handle on the ball. He put up seven first-half points but really found his groove in the second. From the point guard position, he was able to control his team's tempo and helped chip the Stars lead to just nine in the fourth. Aviles would ultimately hit four three-pointers in his way to 18 points. He plays with a swagger and confidence that most his age hasn't developed yet and still, has the poise and playmaking ability to get his teammates involved.

Georgia Impact 2023

Georgia Impact 2023 lived up to their teams name as they made a dominant impact on Day 1 of the HoopSeen Super Regional. After getting a strong win in their first matchup of the morning against U.C Spurs, their momentum continued as they followed up with two more victories over a talented D-Elite roster and North GA Premier. Georgia Impact's main piece is their anchor in the frontcourt, Aaron Smith. Smith finished with 17 points in their first win of the day. He's a bigger player for his age, and he used that advantage to make defensive stops, clean up the glass, and get easy finishes at the basket.  Their roster also features Amon McDowell who can score in bunches. He proved that pretty easily with a 19-point performance in a win. Point guard Davion Thomas showcased his evasive finishing abilities by beating help side defenders in the paint. He, along with Camani Cobbs, each had a 12-point outing today. Devon Rainey and Kory Mincy also had notable contributions. Georgia Impact's perfect 3-0 streak will be on the line on Championship Sunday. If their play on Saturday was any indication of what's to come, this team will be hard to stop. - Austin Smith

Quick Hitters...

One team that blazed a new trail here at the Super Regional were the 2-0 Birmingham Razorbacks. Thus far this team has been on a tear with some quality wins over stiff competition. Some players that have stood out were Carson Huff with games of 16 and 17 points, along with the distance threat of Benji Parrott. - Tai Young

Dejuan Potts-Heard had himself a day to remember. Seven made 3's through 2 games has put him in a class of his own. The 2022 Cherokee Legacy guard has been one of the more consistent shooters in day ones slate of games. - Tai Young

I love to watch some of the younger prospects show off moves that they have seen their idols do on TV. That appeared to be the case with Georgia Impact guard Aaron Hunter. Some of the defenders in front of him stood no chance as the 2025 guard routinely pulled off multiple combinations in a single possession. Look for him to grace some mixtapes in the future. - Tai Young

If there was a single player that was more dominant than the rest then I would be hard pressed to name anyone more impactful than Zayden Walker(pictured above). The Team Heat forward had games of 25 and 20 points but he did not dominate simply because of his height. Zayden did a good job of positioning himself for rebounds and was aggressive when chasing misses. He got lower than others to his his leverage and once he did there was no turning back. - Tai Young
