Bre Singleton's 2017 HoopSeen Superlatives
Best Sleeper
Combo guard Tye Fagan was one of the best players out of Middle Georgia this season. A combo guard of Upson Lee’s winning pedigree, Fagan has a really nice feel for the game. He can get by defenders off the dribble or hit the outside shot. His change of speed and direction make it hard for most to keep him out of the pain. The 6’3” wing can definitely score but one of his most impressive plays, in my opinion, came in on the defensive end in the 17U championship game versus Sports Academy South. With about 30 seconds left in the game, SAS came up with a steal and had an easy path to a game-winning layup. But Fagan, with more athleticism than he’s given credit for, came from the left to swat the ball off of the backboard and come up with the steal. The Supersonics would go on to win that game. Fagan originally ran with the Middle GA Supersonics but finished out his travel ball career with Team GA Magic. Middle Tennessee State was the first to offer him in January and a few others have hopped on more recently.
Player That Wowed Me the Most
The most prolific scorer I saw all season was probably in the 14U division. Pro One Select's Brody Peebles can absolutely fill it up. He scored 41 points in the ATL Jam opener back in April and went full speed ahead from there. The '21 guard out of Alabama can pull it from just about any spot on the floor. It's hard to box him in a just a "shooter" though because Peebles' shot fake can get him into the paint just as easily as a more athletic slasher. A couple of 20-point performances at BOTS sured up my sentiments about the stealthy combo guard.
Best Prospects
Although Brandon Boston generally gets most of the praise in regards to the 15U Georgia Stars team, Toneari Lane is a stud as well. The former Atlanta Xpress wing-forward plays extremely hard and was MVP of the 15U division of the Norman Parker Showcase. He had a nice showing at BOTS as well. At 6'5", Lane has one of the more physical frames in the 2020 class and will look to build on his stellar freshman season at Parkview. It'll be fun to see how his rebounding and scoring skills continue to improve.
One of the best young guards I got to watch this travel season was Brandon Garcia out of Miami. The Team Knight floor general played very well in our events, making the 15U Gibbons All-Tournament team. He has a smooth outside shot, can get to the cup, and has proven that he can be a high volume scorer when necessary.
