The Event All Star game proved to be an offensive showcase
It was Triad All Star weekend once again and Walkertown High School was the site for this years festivities.
Everyone in the gym was blessed with a surprise Event All Star game this contest featured some serious ballers from around the country and it allowed us a look at another crop of seniors we won’t see in Sunday’s featured All Star Game. Offensively both teams were locked in it was a scoring exhibition.
The West team came out victorious over the East 136-125 and in case you’re thinking no that’s not a typo! Both squads had bucket getters several players impressed with a multi-faceted scoring arsenal.
Arion Broadnax (2017, unsigned) was named MVP of the game after he poured in a cold 29 which led all scorers. Broadnax is an athletic guard who enjoys impacting the game in all areas, he has a tight handle and is excellent at creating space for himself to get a good shot off. Rashard Daniels (2017 uncommitted) was the other half of this killer backcourt representing Glenn high school Daniels quickly established himself as one of the best players on the court. He finished with 28 points and several dunks that erupted the gym. Both these talented guards are still weighing their options between looks from Division II and Prep School programs.
For the East Reece Bogan (2017, Walsh University commit) of Highpoint Central was lights out from deep he finished with 18. This young man has a textbook shooting stroke and impressive range to go along with it logan is a heat check waiting to happen. DJ Grant ( 2017, unsigned) from Reagan High scored 16 points he also was one of the few players strapping up a bit on Defense. Grant is a solid slasher and has a pretty consistent jumper if you play off him.
Marquise Walker (2017, unsigned) also impressed with his play he came off the bench and gave his side a much-needed boost. Walker showed playmaking ability as he set up teammates, he’s also tough with the basketball the guy can really absorb contact and finish at the rack. Walker is receiving some looks at the Division II and Juco levels currently.
The East trailed by double digits at one point in the contest but Coach Robert’s side received productive minutes from their reserves. With three minutes left the East had cut the deficit to just 9 points. It looked like they had snatched all the momentum but the West team never lost composure.
Overall it was a very high paced action packed game most of these guys play against each other all season but in this one they were asked to team up and compete. This game is another platform for these young players to show the city what they can do.
Hawks And Larue Take 3point shootout and Skills Competition
Mason Hawks (2017, Sidney Hampton Commit ) reigned supreme in the Triad All Star Skills Competition. Hawks beat out some stiff competition participants had to finish in the top 3 to advance to the final round. The guard from Mt Airy High was joined in the finals by Greensboro Day teammates Jordan Perkins (2017 NCCU commit) and J.P Moorman (2017 Temple commit). It came down to just seconds between the first and second place finalists.
The three point shootout needed a bonus round to crown a champion and it’s no surprise with so many great shooters around our state. Cooper Larue (2017, uncommitted) was pitted against Olufemi Boko (2017, uncommitted) we witnessed these two snipers out of West Forsyth and Calvary Baptist go at it for two rounds. Both tied with a score of 15 in the first two rounds, in the last round Larue caught fire he finished with 17 and that proved to be enough for the title. Larue had an excellent senior campaign for one of the top programs in the state, Boko is one of the most electrifying players in the area he’s the closest thing you’ll find to Isiah Thomas in the Tre-4. Both these guys are fielding looks from some Division II and Prep School programs.
