Georgia Cup IV Friday Notes
The fourth Georgia Cup is underway and teams from the middle school and high school divisions were on display on Friday night trying to get their weekend started right. Here are a couple notes from the night:
- The Middle Georgia Supersonics came to play. Their 17U squad was lead by their front court of John Corbin and Marcal Knolton, who combined for 45 points, 27 & 18 respectively. They will be a tough bunch here this weekend. Their 16U group has a lot of size and was lead tonight by Upson Lee big man Travon Walker (pictured), who scored 28 points. Walker is a powerhouse of a player who is also a standout defensive lineman on the football field.
- Team Strong’s 14U team had an impressive showing. They go as their point guard Jaques Smith goes. Smith is one of the best and quickest ball handlers in the 8th grade division of the tournament and though he did not score a lot, he left a huge impact on his team’s win tonight.
- The 14U division had some very close games tonight, looking like last week’s competitive division. We could be in store for more very good 8th grade battles this weekend.
