Schools prioritize Anthony Polite

One of the most versatile guards throughout the south has begun to see his recruitment pick up steam. Anthony Polite, a 6-foot-6 junior out of St. Andrew’s School in Florida, was able to get a visit in last weekend to an SEC program and has steadily added impressive offers to his cupboards of ones already.

Born in Switzerland but having moved to the United States nearly three years ago, the junior guard is the son of Michael Polite, a former Florida State basketball star.

While his team came up short in the regional finals, the versatile and play making guard posted consistent numbers across the board in averaging close to 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals per game this past high school season.

On the recruiting front, things have picked up by the week. Offers in hand include those from Boston College, Florid State, UAB, Virginia Tech, Richmond, Rutgers, Columbia, Yale, Princeton, Weber State, UT-Chattanooga, Rice, FIU, FAU, and Utah. Along with the giant group, Georgetown, Marquette, Auburn, Miami, and Alabama have been showing further interest.

What Polite brings to the floor that makes him such a worthwhile recruit is the fact that he can play all three spots on the perimeter. Bringing great size and a college ready body to the hardwood, Polite is an aggressive ballplayer that takes care of the ball, can run his team’s offense and facilitate appropriately, yet also soar for the highlight dunk. He rebounds his area, can really defend the ball, and has a no prisoners mentality whenever physicality is present.

At the next level, his position may be across the board, though many have voiced their opinions as where they see him. “The coaches tell me I will be a combo guard,” Polite said. “I can have the ball in my hands but also play off of it. It just depends on who is on the court.”

In recent weeks, UAB, Alabama, Georgetown, and Miami have been in to see the 6-foot-5 guard but it is UAB, Florida State, and Alabama that have already made Polite a priority recruit.

UAB was one of the first programs to jump on board and it seems that they have only heated things up further in recent months. “I think they have a great program, a rising program, and really good coaching,” Polite said about the CUSA bunch.

With bloodlines tracing back to Tallahassee, Florida State remains a viable threat for the junior. “I grew up in Europe so I haven’t been past FSU but I really like them but my dad going there won’t affect my decision,” the product of the Florida Vipers travel squad stated.

Alabama is new to join the fray in the fight for Polite but the SEC squad was able to land a visit out of Polite this past weekend. “It was great. We went up there and saw the game against Auburn,” the Swiss native said. “It was a great atmosphere. I like how they played and how their point guards play with the pick and roll. I really like the coaching staff.”

“Coach Avery (Johnson) said he saw a lot of video of me but he wanted to see me in person, hopefully in the spring,” Polite said about a possible Alabama offer.

While his two previous visits had been made to UCF and Boston College before the Alabama trip, Polite is eyeing two more to Florida State and UAB in the coming months. Regardless, expect for programs in and out of the Sunshine State to thoroughly pursue the 6-foot-5 play maker this spring and summer as he enters his final year of high school play.
