Royce Hamm speaks on early leaders
Royce Hamm, a 6-foot-8 forward out of Davis High School in Texas, has put together a solid junior campaign. Averaging nearly 22 points and 10 rebounds per game, the long and active junior gave insight on where things stand with his recruitment along with what the future may bring with him.
Running with the Houston Hoops bunch on the travel circuit, Hamm is a long-term piece that any college program should be interested in. The 6-foot-8 forward can stretch out the defense with the perimeter jumper, put the ball on the floor on the attack to the basket, but brings his most value to the floor with his bouncy body-type. He gets off the floor with ease and is a pogo stick of sorts in attacking the glass on the offensive end and in throwing down impressive dunks in the lane.
Helping lead his Davis High bunch to an undefeated record within districts, a bevy of some of the top programs throughout the region have come calling on him. “Baylor, Arizona, and Kansas are the latest to show interest,” the Texan noted. “Texas and Vanderbilt were the last two to offer me.”
With some of the best Big 12 and SEC schools involved and fresh off of a visit to Texas A&M this past weekend, it is another in-state program that has stood out with Hamm. “I am feeling Texas a lot. I like Coach (Shaka) Smart,” the Davis High standout said of his feelings regarding the Longhorns. “They just keep telling me that they really want me.”
Just a two hour drive from his home to Austin, Hamm has made several trips to UT over the past several months but the plan is to save all of his official visits until the completion of his travel season this summer. However, there are a few that stand out compared to others at this time. “Texas, LSU, Arizona, even though they haven’t offered yet, and Texas A&M lately,” Hamm said.
A mobile 4-man that can defend various spots on the floor, make shots when open, yet also cause a nuisance on the either side of the glass is a valuable commodity and with further eyes placed onto him, expect for Royce Hamm’s recruitment to hit the next level as a national-type of recruit.
