Juwan Gray exudes upside and production
While Cheickna Dembele has received all of the recent attention for the Scotland Performance Institute bunch, there is more to the Pennsylvania-based program than just the 6-foot-10 center. Juwan Gray deserves his dues and on Sunday, in front of a handful of high-more programs in attendance for the aforementioned Dembele, Gray excited.
With great length and athleticism at either forward spot, Gray stands at 6-foot-7 and sports long arms and a quick first step from off the perimeter. The younger brother of Kendall Gray, the reigning MEAC player of the year, the senior forward brings a bevy of upside and versatility to the hardwood.
Born in Mississippi but having grown up in Dover, Delaware, the intriguing senior can score the ball in rhythm from off the catch from deep, put the ball on the floor and explosively finish at the basket with the tomahawk jam, yet also distribute some off of a few dribbles. Add in the fact that Gray displays quality instincts and production in playing the passing lanes and defending various spots in the frontcourt and there is a lot to be impressed with in speaking on the SPI forward.
After finishing with 20 points on Sunday in scoring the ball in a variety of ways, Gray spoke on where things currently stand with his recruitment. “Miami of Ohio just offered me a few weeks ago,” he said. “They are my only offer right now but Hofstra is showing me interest and St. Joe’s and NC State just said that they liked me,” Gray said following his team’s victory.
A product of the Team Final Black squad who is just now beginning to receive the dues that he rightfully deserves, if Gray can continue to put together performances like he did on Sunday, expect for many more programs to toss their hat into the mix with the Mississippi native.
