With the first half of the high school season behind us, it is time to update our 2016 Alabama state rankings. During November and December, several guys increased their play, while a couple of newcomers find their way into the updated rankings.

TOP STAYS CONSISTENT

For the most part, the top end of the 2016 rankings remain the same. Justin Hopkins and Darian Adams jump Tracey Burnett to round out the top 10, while the top seven prospects remain in the same order.

Michigan State signee Josh Langford is the unanimous No. 1, but future UAB guard Javien Williams had some special moments in December. It looks like Langford will ultimately hold on to the top spot, but Williams has closed what was a marginal gap. Expect both seniors to compete for the Mr. Basketball award at the conclusion of the season.

NEW FACES

There are four new faces that have entered the rankings for the first time.

Kalin Johnson comes in at No. 19 after an impressive start to the season, highlighted by his electric scoring ability. He is one of the top scorers in the state and was a standout at the N2 Hoops Invitational at Bob Jones High School at Thanksgiving.

Justin Brown, a physical forward, impressed the HoopSeen staff against Pelham in December as he guarded four-star Alex Reese. He followed that up with some noteworthy games at the prestigious city of Palms in Florida. He makes his debut at No. 23 in the rankings.

Coming in at No. 27 is McAdory is sharpshooter Prince Moss. The 6-foot-4 wing has cemented himself as one of the top shooters in the state. Moss is also helping lead McAdory to a very productive season thus far.

The last new face to make his debut in the rankings is Cornerstone guard Will Stanford. The athletic combo guard is one of the most gifted scorers the state has to offer, as he has dropped 30 points several games this season. He has made statements in the first half of the season.

OFF THE BOARD

Several players in this set of rankings have already made their college decisions. In fact, the nine top prospects have already committed and/or signed with a program. Fourteen of the 35 prospects ranked have committed and/or signed with a program.

Nine of the players committed have elected to remain in-state for the college basketball endeavors: Javien Williams (UAB), Kevin Morris (South Alabama), Triston Chambers and Justin Hopkins (Samford), Darian Adams (Troy), Rod Scott (Jacksonville State), Austin Rogers and Reggie Gee (Alabama State), and Seth Swalve (UA-Huntsville).

Josh Langford (Michigan State), Reginald Todd (New Mexico State), C.J. Jones (UT-Chattanooga), and Sha’Markus Kennedy and Deric Patton (Chipola (FL) JUCO) are also committed/signed.
