Schools finding their way to Macon to see Moore

MACON, GA – On a sleepy Saturday afternoon in Middle Georgia, Khavon Moore started his 2016 calendar year doing what he does best. The 6-foot-8 sophomore from Westside High School was the most versatile player on the floor in a simple 88-55 win over Columbus Spencer.

Moore made quick work against Spencer on Saturday, scoring 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, had four assists, a couple of steals and a block in the win. His versatility at 6-foot-8 is what’s intriguing about the young sophomore.

“I think I’m playing pretty good,” Moore said. “I feel like every time I step onto the floor that I’m the best player out there.”

The sophomore leads Westside in every statistical category and Westside improved to 11-3 on the season with the win. Many hoops pundits have tabbed Moore as one of the top 25 players nationally in the class of 2018. His versatility and size at multiple backcourt positions certainly intrigue.

College coaches are getting closer to making him a sophomore class priority. Coaches from Clemson, Georgia, Mercer, Ohio State, UConn, Troy and West Virginia have been in to Westside High to see Moore since the start of the season. According to Westside coaches, Alabama, Florida and Florida State have also been in contact.

Moore had an active fall, making unofficial visits to Auburn, Georgia, Mercer and Troy.

“I liked the Georgia and Auburn trips. Their campuses are nice and their organizations are pretty good,” Moore said. “I feel like I have a good connection with the coaches at Troy, Georgia and Auburn.”

While it is still early in the recruiting process, Moore said he’s looking for that all too familiar level of comfort at the next leve.

“I want to find a place that let’s me play my game and have a lot of freedom,” Moore said.
