Quinndary Weatherspoon has been one of the relative surprises for this year’s Mississippi State men’s basketball squad. The 6-foot-4 freshman is averaging close to nine points and over three boards per game in his first year at the SEC program but it is another Weatherspoon that is making moves down south. Nik Weatherspoon, a 6-foot-2 guard out of Velma Jackson High School, has continued to solidify his stock during his junior campaign as a top-100 recruit.

Due to an elite first step, quality toughness, and a great feel for the game, shutting down the junior guard is a daunting task. The native of the state of Mississippi loves to attack the basket with a vengeance and is capable of scoring through contact at the lid. Throw in a developing outside jumper along with solid distributing skills on the perimeter and the playmaking guard has all of the tools to be a priority recruit this summer.

Averaging over 27 points per game and leading his team to a 10-and-6 record this winter, colleges are now beginning to throw heavier heat towards Weatherspoon. “I am hearing from Ohio State, Marquette, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Iowa State, Memphis, Ole Miss, LSU, and Alabama,” the product of the MBA Hoops travel squad noted. “Iowa State, Ohio State, and Marquette have been on me really hard.”

After being seen by Baylor two weeks back, Marquette is expected in on Tuesday to see Weatherspoon. While there still is some time before any type of decision is made, look for the 6-foot-2 junior to take some visits this spring and further his stock as one of the more explosive and followed guards during the summer months.
