Mario Haskett becomes a wanted man

The Richmond, Virginia area has always produced more than enough college ready talent in any given graduating class. Furthermore, it is the combo guard spot that seems to be a strongpoint of the city where such others as Indiana guard Robert Johnson and UNC guard Kenny Williams each hail from the locale. Who might be the next man up? It would seem that LC Bird junior guard Mario Haskett could be the guy.

A 6-foot-2 guard with a quick first step on the attack to the basket, Haskett competes with toughness on each and every possession on the floor. While the LC Bird star is in between guard spots and can run his team in the backcourt but also be placed off the ball where he might be served best at this time because of his scoring prowess, the down the road potential out of him is definitely evident.

Due to his outside shot making skills, killer mid-range game, and competitive edge, to go along with his willingness to get better and better, Haskett seems to be someone that could really break out this spring running again with the River City Reign crew. With a trunk full of offers already, there are a few programs that have prioritized the Richmond native. “Harvard, Virginia Tech, VCU, Vanderbilt, Rice, Richmond, Providence, and Yale,” Haskett told HoopSeen about those pursuing the hardest.

The Virginia Tech Hokies have come on hard lately and after head coach Buzz Williams was in to see the tough and competitive junior a few weeks back, the second year staff in Blacksburg dished out an offer to him. “It’s the ACC. I am blessed to have received it,” Haskett said about it.

After receiving the offer, the 6-foot-2 guard made a visit to the ACC program earlier this week for the contest where the Hokies knocked off the University of Virginia, quite possibly the biggest win of Buzz Williams’ tenure in Blacksburg. “They showed me a lot of love. The game was great. Even with the students gone, it was a great time,” the junior noted.

While Haskett is focused on leading his LC Bird bunch to a state run this winter, it looks like the Hokies along with a group of others throughout the east coast will remain in heavy pursuit of the shot-making and gritty guard out of the Richmond region.
