High-majors zero in on Prentiss Hubb
Steve Turner’s squad at Gonzaga College High always showcases some of the best talent in any given year. This season is no different and while it isn’t his most experienced bunch, the talent oozes with this crop as they display loads of versatility, playmakers, toughness, and guys that are willing to be coached and play for each other. At the Cancer Research Classic this past weekend in West Virginia, the DC squad knocked off Neumann-Goretti by one and it was the play out of sophomore guard Prentiss Hubb that aided the Eagles in securing the quality win.
Where Chris Lykes is the lead guy at the helm for Gonzaga, the next guy up is Prentiss Hubb. The 6-foot-2 sophomore is capable of playing on and off the ball as the smooth lefty plays with a great pace to his game. He rarely ever gets sped up with pressure supplied and can really pass the ball in moving towards the bucket. The southpaw has a very confident jumper that he can hit from off the bounce and from off the catch from deep and is more than willing to exert effort and energy on the defensive end in containing the basketball.
Against the talented Neumann-Goretti bunch out of Philadelphia on Saturday, Hubb was very efficient with his scoring. Going up against top-75 guard Quade Green, Hubb more than held his own to his older opponent as he made seven of his eleven shot attempts, converted on all five of his foul shots, and seemed to always be involved as he played all of the 32 minutes allotted to him. However, it was the scooping lay-in going to his left that won it for Gonzaga at the buzzer and showed the willingness and want to have the ball in his hands during the crunch time that makes things so promising with the sophomore moving ahead.
After finishing the game with co-MVP honors and 19 points in all, Hubb gave an update on his recruitment. “Xavier, NC State, Cincinnati, Maryland, George Mason, and Penn State have all offered,” the product of the DC Premier program stated.
While Hubb hasn’t made any trips in recent months, his latest coming back in June to see what Mark Turgeon and his staff could offer in College Park, there are a few things that the improving guard has in mind in selecting a college down. “I just want a place that I can fit in, play my game, and produce and help the team win,” the Gonzaga scorer stated.
Still with some time to go in the sophomore’s recruitment, it would seem that this coming travel season could be the jumpstart that allows for the DMV recruit’s stock to go national as a prospect within the 2018 class.
