GHSA Recaps 6A-5A

Class AAAAAA

No. 1 Westlake 76, No. 7 Pebblebrook 70: Westlake continued to prove why they are No. 1 in 6A with a road win over Pebblebrook in Region 3 action. Chuma Okeke and Ronald Bell both had monster games inside. Okeke scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while Bell added 18 points and 16 boards to pace the Lions. Danny Lewis added 12. Pebblebrook received 23 points from Auburn signee Jared Harper in the loss.

No. 3 Norcross 70, Mountain View 57: Rayshaun Hammonds scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to help the Blue Devils to another win. Freshman Kyle Sturdivant added 14 points. Mountain View used the three ball to hang around. Spencer Rogers drilled five long balls and finished with 19 points while Dowell Nixon sank four and netted 14 points.

No. 8 Newton 68, Lakeside-DeKalb 43: JD Notae scored 17 points and Jaquan Simms scored all 16 of his points in the first half. Freshman Ashton Hagans pitched in 12 points before the bench played the entire fourth quarter. On Friday Coach Rick Rasmussen will coach his 300th career game and will be in search of win No. 221.

No. 9 Grayson 58, South Gwinnett 56: The Rams survived at home against the Comets. Alphonso Willis totaled 20 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Kenyon Jackson tallied 10 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks inside.

Brookwood 96, 5ANo. 7 Heritage-Conyers 68: In the biggest statement game of the night, Brookwood blasted a very good Heritage team. Six players reached double figures led by Bubba Parham’s 20 points and four assists. Trae Higginbotham scored 16 points and Sean Agnant added 12. Micah Kinsey, Markus Smith and Amari Kelly all pitched in 10 points. Kinsey collected eight assists and six steals as well.

Lambert 79, North Forsyth 41: Navy signee Connor Mannion and Austin Deckard both scored 18 points to power the Longhorns. Andrew Melms finished with 12 points and eight assists.

South Cobb 65, Langston Hughes 57: Derrick Cook scored 24 points but it was not enough for the Panthers to score an important Region 3 win. South Cobb was paced by Trey Wade’s 20 points.

Newnan 85, Campbell 78: Laz Walker scored 26 points and grabbed 10 boards in the loss.

Osborne 60, Hillgrove 55: Latrell Tate led the Cardinal attack with 14 points and six assists to knock off the Hawks.

Class AAAAA

No. 1 Miller Grove 101, Clarkston 42: Miller Grove overwhelmed Clarkston with seven players scoring in double figures. Aidan Saunders led the way with 18 points followed by freshman Maurice Harvey and Raylon Richardson’s 11 points apiece. Aaron Augustin, Alterique Gilbert, Joshua Jackmon and Tae Hardy all netted 10 points.

No. 2 Allatoona 74, East Paulding 40:  Four players scored in double figures for the Bucs. Trey Doomes had 14 points and six rebounds. Ephraim Tshimanga added 11 points, three rebounds and three steals. Mike Johnson contributed 13 points and Randy Legros grabbed 11 rebounds and swatted four shots to go with his four points.

No. 3 McIntosh 65, Luella 35: Jordan Lyons added on to his new all-time scoring record with 17 points. Will Washington had nine assists and Dishon Lowery grabbed nine rebounds. Javaun Anderson led the Lions with 15 points.

No. 4 Gainesville 81, Discovery 64: Georgia State signee D’Marcus Simonds led the Red Elephants with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists. KJ Buffen notched 16 points and 10 boards. Michael White had 16 points.

No. 5 Cedar Shoals 72, Loganville 31: The Jaguars rolled to a Region 8 victory. Snipe Hall scored 11 points, Tyquon Mitchell added10 and Jarvis Ponder netted nine points in the win.

No. 6 South Paulding 54, Alexander 38: Kane Williams finished with six points and 11 assists. Anthony Brown had nine points and nine rebounds.

No. 8 Riverwood 76, North Springs 53: Kohl Roberts was unstoppable inside while Elijah Jenkins couldn’t be contained from behind the arc. Roberts totaled 21 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, six steals and two blocks. Jenkins scored 21 points, splashing in 7-of-9 threes. Charnchai Chantha added 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals and three assists.

Apalachee 75, Lanier 58: Butler signee Kamar Baldwin ran wild on the Longhorns and pumped in 40 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and four steals. Jabari Hill finished with 18 points.

Stockbridge 96, Northgate 70: Virgil Fields had another monster game along with Jadon Davis. Fields finished with 32 points, 15 rebounds and six assists while Davis recorded 32 points and 10 boards.

Richmond Academy 69, Greenbrier 64: Moses Williams scored 22 points and added seven rebounds to keep the Musketeers’ win streak alive, extending the stretch to seven games. DT Stephens finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

 

Flowery Branch 69, Winder-Barrow 49: Brannon Clark scored 17 of his team-high 24 points in the first half to help the Falcons to a Region 8 victory. John Mills added 16 points and Trey Bailey chipped in 10.
