DeAndre Williams quickly becoming a wanted man
Over the weekend at the Thanksgiving Hoopsfest, some of the best prospects throughout the south laced up their shoes on the floor at Duncanville High School. Guys like De’Aaron Fox, Andrew Jones, Trae Young, and JJ Caldwell showed why they are top-75 recruits, but it was a teammate of Chandler’s that also showed quality worth and value at the next level. Still not committed to a college program just yet, DeAndre Williams displayed the length and deceptive ball skills that could make him a warranted recruit during his final year of high school basketball.
A native of Houston, Texas, the 6-foot-7 senior forward suits up alongside future Texas A&M guard JJ Caldwell for the SATCH bunch. While he has yet to fill out a ton and must further develop his perimeter jumper, the intriguing forward works best in facing the basket and attacking it off of limited dribbles. For having a thinner physique, Williams has loads of toughness to him where he can score through contact at the basket and has a lot of glue-like qualities where he makes a ton of plays on the offensive glass and can defend various spots on the floor within the half-court setting.
After running with the Texas PRO bunch this past summer on the Adidas circuit alongside five-star big man Jarrett Allen, Williams’ recruitment remains open just like his travel teammate and a few of the power conference programs near him have remained in the hunt. “I have offers from Baylor, OK State, Houston, SMU, and Western Kentucky,” the Houstonian noted.
The SATCH forward had taken visits to Baylor, Houston, and Texas this past summer, while he is also hearing further overtures from the Longhorns, USC, Kansas, and Kansas State.
With more time spent on polishing his ball skills and adding further strength, Williams has a solid chance in becoming a productive forward at either spot in the frontcourt at the next level.
