Roundtable: Which player intrigues you the most that didn't sign?

With the early signing period now in the books, we wanted to run through the important questions with our HoopSeen.com staff. Which recruit didn’t sign or commit that intrigues you the most with his suitors/recruitment in the coming months?

Justin Young: Kobi Simmons. The reason being is this – I think we’re about to see a total reset of his recruitment. UNLV and Ohio State were the serious players down the stretch and it was thought he was ready to commit to either program at different points during the process. The early signing period came and went without a decision. As history teaches us, that generally means things go back to square one with high-level prospects. Programs will take commitments, recruiting needs change and rosters transform. I wouldn’t be surprised to see his list expand, morph and evolve over the next four to five months. We’re just getting started here.

Carter Wilson: It was no surprise that he did not choose a school during the fall, but Saint Francis (GA) point guard Kobi Simmons will be an interesting player to watch from a recruiting standpoint. His list was narrowed down to UNLV, Ohio State, and Kentucky. However, will there be another team that comes on strong from now until the spring? Many minds think that team might be Georgia Tech, who already have Romello White and Josh Okogie on board from within the state. Arizona has also been mentioned recently in regards to Simmons.

Garrett Tucker: I’m going to go with Marques Bolden. It wasn’t surprising that a decision didn’t come from Bolden during the early signing period. Many of the coaches involved in his recruitment didn’t expect anything, either. However, over the past month, this recruitment has really gotten interesting. For starters, Duke and Kentucky both received big front court-commitments/signees. From the sounds of things, both of those schools may be out of the running for the five-star shot-blocker.

Who does that leave? Kansas and Alabama are getting the most attention right now, but don’t count out TCU or Baylor. I expect this recruitment to drag out longer than many expect. This recruitment is just getting started, and it’s going to be interesting to see which directions it goes from here.

Corey Evans: Sure, guys like Marques Bolden, Thon Maker, and Josh Jackson are all still out available. I definitely am interested to see where all three go and the intrigue surrounding each of them is definitely evident. However, there are some whispers popping up with Terrance Ferguson and if he will ever suit up for Alabama. The 6-foot-6 wing had committed to the SEC bunch back in August but never signed this past week. Usually whenever a top tier recruit commits but doesn’t sign, it definitely doesn’t bode too well as potential programs can attempt to poach the committed recruit. Will Ferguson sign in April and put all of this talk to waste? Your guess is as good as mine.
