Team Preview: Four out of five pieces from last year’s Pebblebrook Fab Five are gone in Ty Hudson (Clemson), Derek Ogbeide (Georgia), Trhae Mitchell (South Alabama), and Kevin Murph (Xavier University of Louisiana). However, between their notable returner and the newcomers, Pebblebrook’s backcourt should shape up to be one of the best in the state. Back is senior point guard Jared Harper, an Auburn commit, who is coming off of a great travel season with the Georgia Stars, where he won MVP of the Nike Peach Jam finals. Harper is one of the top senior guards in the state and will be the catalyst of this Falcons squad this year. Joining him in the backcourt is Collin Sexton, a transfer from Hillgrove. Sexton is a junior combo guard who is also coming off of a good showing on the travel circuit, proving that he is one of the best scorers in Georgia’s junior class. A big key to the duo of Sexton and Harper is that both are capable of playing both backcourt positions. The fact that they are interchangeable will be a key for the Falcons and how head coach George Washington can use them. The key newcomer for Pebblebrook has been a little bit of a mystery so far in the fall. Wing JJ Smith has transferred in from EE Smith high school in Fayetteville, NC. Smith gives the Falcons a lot of versatility and athleticism on the wing. One of the biggest benefits of this addition is that Smith provides a good rebounding wing as well as a player that can guard multiple positions, including frontcourt players.

After a heartbreaking loss in last year’s state championship game, there will not be many teams as hungry this year as Pebblebrook. However, losing the players that they have lost to graduation, there are question marks surrounding this team including their frontcourt and their depth. However, their backcourt will be tough for teams to match up with and will be an elite scoring backcourt that can fill it up quickly.
