Team Preview: Norcross has long been one of Georgia’s dynasty teams, and every team they are in the conversation as a state championship contender. This year will be no different, with a solid group of players who are maturing, including a very nice class of juniors. The Blue Devils’ key piece will be junior forward Rayshaun Hammonds, who is one of Georgia’s most difficult players to match up with. Hammonds could be a player who really breaks out this year as he will have an expanded role with the losses of Tim Cameron, Ricky Madison, and Devin Huffman. Joining him in the Norcross frontcourt is junior forward Lance Thomas. Thomas gives Norcross even more size at 6-foot-9. However, on offense he adds a perimeter dimension to the Blue Devils, with a big time ability to fill it up from deep. Rounding out the Norcross frontcourt is a junior forward who could be a sleeper in the junior class, Robert Sims. Sims is a 6-foot-6 combo forward who had a good showing at Best of the South in July with Alabama Challenge, and could emerge as a key player for the Blue Devils.

In the backcourt, Norcross has a solid group of guards returning as well as notable newcomers. Returning are junior point guard Jordan Goldwire and sophomore point guard Dalvin White, who combined give the Blue Devils two reliable ball handlers and guys who have proven their value in their careers so far at Norcross. The additions to their backcourt come in the form of freshmen. First is Kyle Sturdivant, who could play a big role on this team. Despite being a young guard, he plays more like an upperclassman with strength and intelligence and has the makings of a very special point guard. Another freshman, Koby Isaac could also see some playing time to contribute as well.

This year’s Norcross team is still a young team, despite having a lot of experience. They will be a contender in a loaded AAAAAA classification and that experience could come into play as the season progresses. Head coach Jesse McMillan has a lot of talent to work with and he will have his players ready for what is thrown their way this year.
