Phenom Hoop Jamboree: Senior Sleepers

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- As National Signing Day approaches on Wednesday, college coaches are still out and about looking for talent in the class of 2016. These three players jumped out to us at the Phenom Hoop Jamboree on Saturday.

Marshall Lange, 6-3 CG, Westchester Country Day (NC): I love stories like Lange’s. After lighting teams up with a beautiful onslaught of three-pointers, the questions starting running up and down the sidelines and baseline – who is this kid? A quick research unveiled this much: Lange didn’t play travel ball thus his light shining in his region only. That’s perfectly okay, too. The college coaches that were in the building are going to have to make up quick ground if they want to get involved. His high school said Lange would like to sign early and is strongly considering several quality Division II offers. Low-majors may be too late. And that’s music to the ears of those schools who identified early and worked Lange hard. The 6-foot-3 guard let it fly from three and was in a terrific zone on Saturday. He plays with a lot of confidence and got into a rhythm where he would not be denied from beyond the arc. His ball-handling is tight and creative, too. There was a lot to like in a first viewing of Lange. Word is, he’s been absolutely terrific this fall.

Bruno Solomun, 6-8 PF, Forsyth Country Day School (NC) pictured above: The 6-foot-9 native of Croatia has been in the United States for three months. On Saturday, he introduced himself to the general public by raining three-pointers against a talented Concord team. Solomun is the quintessential stretch four man. He slid out to the three-point line, was the beneficiary of great passes and let it fly from deep. He’s big and strong enough to be a nice option down low as a below the rim post scorer, too. At this weekend’s National Showcase in Winston-Salem, Solomun is worth another evaluation. He just took the SAT for the first time on Saturday, before coming over to the Jamboree. Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro, St. Bonaventure, Old Dominion, Furman and Oral Roberts have either been in to see him or shown interest, he said. Mark Price and two assistants were courtside for all of his games on Saturday.

Trejon Jacob, 6-5 WG, Millbrook (NC): The long 6-foot-5 Houston native was consistently good at the Jamboree and a big reason why his team went 3-0 against quality competition. Jacob was good in the open floor and worked hard to free himself for athletic plays at the rim. The lefty showed off a solid perimeter game and he has the frame to develop into a quality defender. He could be a senior season riser with regards to his recruitment.
