One of the best prospects that stepped onto the campus of Albert Magnus College this past weekend for the National Prep Showcase wasn’t even able to suit up for his New Hampton School squad. Due to a recently surgically repaired broken foot, Kimani Lawrence will have to sit out these next few weeks until he gains strength and stability with his injured part. Regardless, the recruiting end of the spectrum has remained strong as some of the better programs nationally are involved with the 6-foot-6 wing.

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Lawrence made the transfer this past year to New Hampton School, a program that has been known for its recent success in sending off players to the college ranks, including the likes of Aubrey Dawkins at Michigan, Tyler Lydon at Syracuse, and former Boston College star Olivier Hanlon. While Lawrence broke his foot for the second time within three months and had to have surgery done on it, the injured junior has remained optimistic on his recovery process.   

When healthy, Lawrence excels is in creating for himself from off the perimeter and in making catch and shoot attempts, where he flourishes the most out of baseline sets. The junior wing has a great frame and the broad shoulders in adding further weight and muscle as he continues to develop at the prep level and beyond.

In speaking on his current recruitment, Lawrence noted on a few that stand out the greatest. “I would probably say I am hearing the most from Stanford, Wake Forest, Xavier, and Creighton,” the Rhode Island native said.

After taking recent trips to the campus of Providence and Rhode Island, Lawrence remains open with his recruitment and it would seem that once he gets back onto stable ground with his health, the New Hampton product should see another uptick with his stock on the college front.
