Harold Baruti showcases long-term value
While the early signing period is coming to an end on Wednesday, some seniors are just beginning to make a name for themselves within their own recruitment. One guy that fits the mold and cemented his status as a worthwhile college recruit this past weekend at the Phenom Naitonal Showcase was Harold Baruti, a 6-foot-6 wing by way of Congo.
Playing out his second and final season at Mountain Mission School in Virginia, Baruti displays tons of upside and long-term value at the small forward position. With a college ready body and a competitive flair to his game, there already are some things to like about the senior. He can score the ball on hard attacks to the basket, has a fine vertical leap in putting a dent on the offensive glass, and can knock down the open perimeter jumper off the well-elevated and confident release.
Having entered the United States 17 months ago, Baruti hasn’t yet seen his recruitment bloom the way that it should have. Playing alongside Arizona State signee Jethro Tshisumpa and also his travel teammate with the West Virginia Wildcats in Maciej Bender at Mountain Mission, the only programs to dish out an offer to Baruti are UNC-Wilmington and SMU, the latter having not been in touch in recent weeks with him.
Programs like Florida, Georgia, and Western Kentucky have all been in touch lately with either Baruti or his coach at Mountain Mission. Still though, with the lacking depth and talent for the higher-levels heading into the high school basketball season, expect for the Congo native’s recruitment to soar.
Ranked at the 17-spot within our 2016 Virginia rankings, Baruti is the best prospect available within the state and someone that the rest of the nation might want to get accustomed to due to his size, two-way abilities, and long-term upside at the wing spot on the floor.
