CourtCred Run N' Shoot Classic notebook

One of the first events of the year in Atlanta, the Courtcred Run’N Shoot Classic was a great field with some talented teams from all over the southeast. Here are a few notes from the day of action.

·      Tulsa is getting a steal in Covenant Christian forward Martins Igbanu. Igbanu showed why he had high major schools after him on Saturday. He was an offensive force, putting in 24 points on just 13 shots. The impact he brings to the floor is huge and he could be a special player for the Golden Hurricanes at the next level.

·      Covenant Christian big man Chris Agbo could be next in line. The 2017 big man is a very intimidating presence on the block, having the look at an NFL tight end at 6-foot-8 and 260 pounds. He rebounded the ball at a very high level and showcased his improved athleticism with some monstrous dunks.

·      Walton guard Juanye Colon has had a great start to the season shooting the ball. The junior guard had a 30-point game to start the season against Milton, and added 26 on 6 threes on Saturday.

·      The Westlake frontcourt will be very difficult to match up with in the state of Georgia. Chuma Okeke, Ronald Bell, and Mike Durr were an absolute force on Saturday, controlling the paint and playing very well off of each other. With guards like Jamie and Danny Lewis that are also big threats on the offensive end, this frontcourt could be reaping a ton of benefits all year.

·      Juwan Gary has all the makings of one of the top recruits in the class of 2019. Despite leaving the game with injury, he showed why he is considered an elite prospect, throwing down a huge put-back slam and solid skill set.

·      Heritage has a group of guards that will make them a factor in the landscape of AAAAA. Charles Moore, Byron Abrams, Isaiah Banks, and Jordan Thomas are an impressive bunch and bring a confidence, toughness, and fearlessness that is big for any under the radar teams.

·      West Oaks (FL) came away with an upset of Word of God (NC). The West Oaks guards shot the ball well from deep and the Flames got great play from USF commit Andres Feliz and Richard Maitre.

Top Performers

·      Martins Igbanu, Covenant Christian: Igbanu had as impressive of a day as anyone. He was very efficient on the offensive end, making the most out of his touches. He was also effective defensively, grabbing defensive rebounds and blocking shots.

·      Chris Agbo, Covenant Christian: Agbo was probably the most eye opening player of the day. He has gotten taller since the summer and now stands at 6-foot-8 with a football player’s body. He was a rebounding machine and added some highlight finishes at the rim.

·      Chuma Okeke, Westlake: Okeke showed that he is a true five-tool player and a jack-of-all-trades from the wing. He showed an array of moves to get to the rim as well as a nice pull up jump shot, finishing with 23 points & 15 rebounds. He was also a factor on defense, anchoring the top of Westlake’s zone and getting his hands on a lot of balls.

·      Ronald Bell, Westlake: Bell was one of the most important transfers of the offseason, despite flying under the radar. Bell is the ultimate glue guy for Westlake. He has an unlimited motor, rebounds the ball well, and scores inside with some angry throw downs.

·      Charles Moore, Heritage: This has to be one of the biggest sleepers in Georgia’s 2016 class. Berkmar struggled to stay in front of him, and he got to the rim at will. He also provided a ton of toughness and was a dog on the defensive end as well. He finished with 18 points & 4 assists. College coaches take note.

·      Andres Feliz, West Oaks: The USF commit showed why he has the accolades he has. The Dominican native was very tough off the bounce for West Oaks, and has a quickness that is very tough for defenses to account for. He finished with 18 points and also rebounded the ball well from the guard spot.
