Alpha Diallo becomes a wanted commodity
One of the best available wings throughout the 2016 class suited up this past weekend at the National Prep Showcase and displayed tons of long-term value but also current production on the hardwood. Alpha Diallo, a 6-foot-5 wing out of the mighty Brewster Academy program, has become a commodity recruit for some of the best programs nationally and rightfully so.
A native of New York but having played some of his earlier high school ball out of the state of Colorado, Diallo is now one of the go-to stars for Brewster and over the weekend in Connecticut, the 6-foot-5 playmaking wing showed off deceptive ball skills, some athleticism at the basket, and valuable two-way production on the hardwood.
Diallo is best used on the wings off the perimeter as a guy that can slice to the basket for quality finishes in the lane, yet has a developing mid-range jumper game that he elevates nicely on. Throw in his ability to rebound the ball and defend various spots on the other end of the floor, and what you have with the 2016 recruit is a hard-playing wing who can do a bit of everything on the playing floor, something that Diallo noted when we caught up with him. “I am an athletic guard that gets to the rim and can hit pull-up shots but I also get my team involved,” the New Yorker noted.
On the recruiting front, Diallo has made just one official visit thus far, which was to VCU during its Black and Gold Game last month. The Rams aren’t alone in their pursuit of the Brewster product as Diallo mentioned Florida, Miami, Texas A&M, Kansas, and Indiana as some of the other offers that he has at the current moment.
With a spring signing looming, there still seems to be some work to be done with Diallo and his recruitment where the versatile wing is due to become a commodity recruit this winter playing alongside some of the better talents at the Brewster Academy program.
