Trae Young recaps Kansas and Kentucky visits

One of the best guards nationally in the 2017 class has been a busy man on the visit trail. Trae Young, a 2017 guard at Norman North High School in Norman, Oklahoma, recently hit the campuses at Kansas and Kentucky and will take off for Oklahoma State and Oklahoma this weekend. Before he does, the 6-foot-1 lead guard gave insight on his time spent in Lawrence and Lexington.

Young is one of the best, most well-rounded guards in all of high school basketball. The son of Rayford Young, a star guard at Texas Tech during the late 1990s, Trae Young has seen his recruitment soar these past few months as he carries offers from programs such as Texas, Kansas, UCLA,  Duke, Kentucky, and Arizona. With a quick release on his killer jumper that he can hit out to 23-feet contested, playmaking abilities off the high pick and roll, and great instincts in guarding the passing lanes, there is a lot to like about the junior guard, hence the allotment of offers from the best of programs nationally.

Two weeks back, Young hit the Kansas campus and took in the Late Night at the Phog festivities, a day that really impressed him. “The campus is beautiful. They just finished the new athletic dorms for just the basketball players and they are second to none. Plus, the fans love their KU basketball!”

While his visit to Lawrence left a solid imprint in his mind on what might be expected if he were to suit up for the Jayhawks, Young stayed hot on the trail and took in Big Blue Madness this past weekend. “I loved it! The best part about it was Coach Cal. He gave me a tour of everything himself. He wanted to spend as much time with me as possible and let me know the plan he would have for me if I decided to play for him.”

“The fan support is unreal and it made it one of my favorite visits,” Young noted in regards to the Kentucky basketball program. The junior’s father backed up the statement even further. “Coach Cal spent all his time with Trae. No assistants, nothing. They talked a long time about his future.”

With high school ball just weeks away, Young will visit Oklahoma State on Friday, October 23, and then get another glimpse at the Oklahoma campus the following day.

Still a bit of time away from any sort of college commitment, Young’s father noted that a condensed list will be produced in December but it should be noted that one hurdle for college acceptance has already been achieved as Young recently scored a 29 on the ACT exam.

After the recent visits to Kentucky and Kansas, it looks as if it has allowed for the two blueblood programs to further their stance with the highly productive floor general out of Oklahoma and in making the cut in the soon to be established narrowed list.
