Team Preview: There aren’t a whole lot of teams that look better getting off the bus than Greenforest. And this year in the state of Georgia, there won’t be too many teams that look better on the floor. Coming off of a heartbreaking loss in the state title game to Saint Francis, Greenforest will look to return to Macon and get a different outcome. The Eagles have the most returning talent in the state from a team that was loaded with underclassmen. They return seven Division I prospects from last year’s team, whose one main loss is Justin Ravenel, now a freshman at Florida A&M. Ironically, the most important returner was not a factor for much of the year last year and will be the main difference with the look of this year’s team. That returner is 7-foot junior center Ikey Obiagu. Obiagu is a shot-blocking machine, whose stock has risen from unknown to possibly a 5-star prospect in the class of 2017 in less than a year. Joining Obiagu in the Greenforest frontcourt are four big time forwards. First is Miami (OH) commit and senior Precious Ayah, who gives this team great energy and rebounding presence. Next is junior Victor Enoh, who is a physical freak and one of the best rebounders in Georgia in 2017. Also in the frontcourt is Baybe Iyiola, who is another high-energy player, whose effort creates a lot of opportunities for himself and teammates. The last of the forwards is sophomore Mohammed Abdulsalem, who is a good scorer on the block and provides even more size to an already enormous frontcourt.
With all the depth and talent in the frontcourt, don’t sleep on the talent in the backcourt. That starts with New Hampshire commit and senior shooting guard John Ogwuche, who will be the primary scoring option for the Eagles. Ogwuche can fill up the score sheet in a hurry. His backcourt mate is junior point guard Justin Forrest, who will also be one of the main scorers on this team. Forrest is a physical guard who can shoot the ball and has a knack for the big moments.
Greenforest is certainly one of the favorites in the A-Private classification and has size that is almost impossible for most teams to match up with. Can they get back to Macon and win it all this time? Only time will tell.
