Herb Jones recaps a pair of visits

It’s been a wild few months for 2017 Moundville (AL) Hale County guard Herb Jones. After helping lead his Sunshine squad to the 1A state championship last February, the school shut down at the end of the school year. Now, the 6-foot-5 finds himself at Hale County.

Despite the school move, college programs are still keeping tabs on the junior. Jones claims offers from UAB and Auburn, with several more schools showing interest.

“Vanderbilt, Tulane, Troy, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia are showing interest,” Jones told HoopSeen.com. “Clemson also called my AAU coach about me.”

Jones has also hosted a couple of schools at his high school for workouts. UAB, Troy and Vanderbilt have all been in, and Florida is expected to be in soon.

Over the past two weeks, Jones has taken two unofficial visits. He visited Vanderbilt for a Saturday football game, as well as for UAB’s annual midnight madness festivity, Hoops on the Haasephalt.

“Vanderbilt was great. I took a tour of the campus and met all of the players and coaches. I like their style of play.”

UAB has been keeping tabs on Jones for quite some time. The Blazers were his first scholarship offer and they have developed a firm foundation within his recruitment. Jones was impressed with his latest visit to the Conference USA school.

“The UAB visit was great. The environment and energy was through the roof. The students and fans seem to be pumped about the season. I like the way they came out to support the teams,” he explained.

When asked if any school is recruiting him the hardest, Jones acknowledged that UAB is putting in the most work to this point.

With practice officially beginning in Alabama on Monday, players are looking ahead to the hoop season. Jones has a few goals heading into his junior campaign.

“I want to get more scholarship offers and get back to the state championship game.”
