We take a look at the various visits taking place throughout the nation this weekend.

Fastbreak Friday

The college season is just a few weeks away and it is almost that time to throw the ball up and let all of the talk become results on the hardwood. In the meantime, a bevy of programs across the nation are attempting to solidify their 2016 recruiting classes before the action starts and the weekend ahead looks like it will be another busy few days on the official visit tour. Not to be outdone, there will be a good amount of younger recruits traversing the nation and like always, Fastbreak Friday brings to you the most in-depth list of visitors throughout the land. North Carolina has its Late Night with Roy festivities, VCU showcases its own Midnight Madness festivities and will host two key, senior prospects, and we take a look at who might pop in the coming days.

LATE NIGHT WITH ROY IS A BIG DEAL

Two weeks ago, Kansas laid out the red carpet for its prized recruits. Last weekend, Kentucky and Duke did just the same and now it is North Carolina’s chance to host some of its top recruits in the coming years. Late Night with Roy is always a pretty big deal down in Chapel Hill and this year is a similar story.

UNC hosts three key, top-30 recruits in the 2016 class. Rawle Akins, a  6-foot-4 wing from New York but now at nearby Word of God in Raleigh, hits the campus and it seems as if the ACC squad is doing their best to become a solid threat for the tough senior’s signature as he won’t sign until the late period. Udoka Azubuike, a 6-foot-9 center from Potters House Christian is a bit of a reach for the Tar Heels at the moment where it seems as if Kansas and Florida State are in the driver’s seat for him, but with the big man’s travel teammate, Brandon Robinson, headed to the ACC program next fall, this weekend could go a long way in allowing for the blueblood program in making moves in the recruitment of the powerful center that plays out his high school ball in Jacksonville, Florida. Lastly, down to a final three but what seems like a fight between Roy Williams’ crew and South Carolina, Seventh Woods will head to Late Night with Roy; this will be in the unofficial variety as he already took an official to the campus a few weeks back and with a commitment looming, this surprise visit from the South Carolina native looks good for UNC in landing the highly athletic guard from the Hammond School.

In the 2018 class, Rechon Black takes the short road up to Chapel Hill and the 6-foot-5 guard is one of the most improving prospects in all of the land within his class. One of the more prolific scoring sophomore’s in America joins Black as Keldon Johnson leaves his native state of Virginia and gets a glimpse of the school; both recruits can be perceived as capable top-25 recruits by the time things are said and done with.

Finishing up on the underclassmen visitors is a loaded crop of freshmen remaining within the state’s borders as Wendell Moore, a 6-foot-5 wing from Charlotte, gets a look at the top-five ranked squad. After visiting Tennessee, Kentucky, and Duke these past few weeks, UNC looks to make some moves early on with the tremendously talented in-state recruit. With him, Joey Baker takes the route up from Fayetteville to see Roy Williams’ group as the freshman looks to have what it takes to be a highly thought of and prioritized recruit within the 2019 class. Regardless, North Carolina and its fans will be putting on their best for the plethora of top tier recruits this weekend.

VCU HOSTS THE BEST THROUGHOUT THE REGION & BEYOND

While Villanova, Xavier, UNC, Indiana, and many others are hosting a boatload of key visitors this weekend, VCU has stepped up to the table in bringing in its own giant allotment of talent to campus this weekend. For its Black and Gold game, the Rams will key in on two senior recruits that would be more than welcomed to campus next fall.

Charlie Moore, one of the best lead guards still available in the 2016 class, hits the Richmond campus on Friday. The 6-foot guard is tough, gritty, and can do whatever you might ask out of him. While Memphis and Cal remain in the hunt for him, the longer it goes, the better it looks for the A10 bunch. With him, Alpha Diallo takes his first official visit and the Rams will attempt to lure a commitment out of him. A native of New York but playing his senior year out at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire this winter, the 6-foot-5 slasher has seen his recruitment blow up in recent weeks and a commitment from him would be huge in adding him alongside 6-foot-6 commit Deriante Jenkins.

Outside of the senior recruits on campus this weekend in the 804 is a group of key juniors led by Chris Lykes, Mario Haskett, and Justyn Hamilton. All three are more than quality recruits for Will Wade in the coming years and would be great additions to the up-tempo system that the new head man will look to keep intact during his first year at the helm.

It doesn’t stop there as a top-50 recruit in the 2018 class travels up I-64 as David McCormack gets a peek at the A10 program. The big man is super polished considering his young age and while he might not be an ideal fit due to his size and strength as a below the rim type, a commitment from him definitely wouldn’t be denied. Others such as Armando Bacot, a 6-foot-8 center with great activity on the glass, and primetime, highly potent wing Isaiah Todd, who is just in eighth grade, are due to be in attendance for the jam packed day in Richmond. While a commitment might not be received by any of the recruits on the school’s campus this weekend, it definitely looks like a loaded crop of talent for the upcoming classes will get a solid glimpse at Havoc at its finest.

WHO COULD POP?

We are just a few weeks away from the early signing period and with several recruits finishing up their official visit tour, we can expect for a few commitments in the coming days.

In the 757, Old Dominion brings in one-time Oklahoma State commit Tre Evans and the sharpshooting, combo guard from the south has a chance to come off the board for the CUSA bunch before returning home.

Seton Hall has made some moves lately with Eron Gordon and with a visit in place to the Big East program, the Pirates look to be in a great place for the 6-foot-2 scorer from Indiana whose older brother, Eric, suits up for the New Orleans Pelicans again this NBA season.

There have been some whispers ever since his decommitment that TJ Leaf could end up at UCLA and now taking the trip to the Pac 12 program this weekend, the Bruins could secure a verbal from the forward, cementing its class as a top-10 unit nationally.

Getting the first shot to host the quickly improving and breakout recruit, VCU will make sure they push for a commitment from Alpha Diallo. A hard-playing and productive wing from Harlem, New York, while things could go for a while with him, stranger things has happened in the past and the Rams should be on commitment watch.

Oklahoma State gets its shot at Gorjok Gak this weekend, a rim running big man at Victory Rock Prep, and the center would provide immediate rim protecting skills and energy down low; a commitment could follow.
