Fall Preview Spotlight: Phil Cirillo

The Fall Preview displayed a variety of prospects on Saturday in Suwanee. We had leapers, sharp shooters, efficient lead guards, and much more. One prospect that displayed versatility in the backcourt with a consistent deep ball and a hard-nosed mentality was none other than Phil Cirillo, a 6-foot-4 guard at Cherokee High School.

While nursing a hamstring injury, Cirillo fought through the pain, competed on each possession, and displayed an excellent feel for the game while also scoring the ball whenever the opportunity presented itself. He can play on and off the basketball without much of an issue and has a deceptively quick first step on the attack to the basket. He rarely ever gets sped up with pressure supplied in the backcourt and when placed off the ball, showcased a pristine jumper with perfect rotation on all of his attempts.

A product of the Georgia Phoenix bunch on the travel circuit, word is just now escaping outside of the Peach State about the steady guard. Due to his high level grades in the classroom and shot making abilities from all three levels on the floor, the recruitment of Cirillo has just begun. After picking up an offer from Air Force recently, Cirillo noted further interest from Princeton, South Alabama, and South Carolina.

Regaining a clean bill of health is a definite need as he enters his junior campaign at Cherokee, yet expect to hear more about the quality student in the classroom and productive perimeter ballplayer in the junior ranks from here on out.
