Blue-blood programs calling on Wyatt Wilkes
2017 Winter Park (FL) forward Wyatt Wilkes has had an interesting few weeks on the recruiting front. The junior visited Kansas last weekend for the Jayhawks’ midnight madness festivities, Late Night in the Phog. The visit was impressive.
“Kansas was really, really nice,” Wilkes told HoopSeen.com. “The dorms were incredible and the players were great guys. We had a tour of the dorms, then went and had a team/recruit dinner, and then watched the game.”
Kansas began showing interest in Wilkes and teammate Chaundee Brown after stellar performances with Southeast Elite (FL) at the Under Armour Finals at Suwanee Sports Academy. However, Bill Self and his staff isn’t the only blue-blood program with eyes on the 6-foot-7 Wilkes. Duke recently put in a call to the star shooter.
“Nate James contacted me. He just touched base with normal recruiting things. Nothing out of the ordinary.”
Kansas and Duke are just a few of the schools involved in Wilkes’ recruitment. Central Florida, Rice, UAB, Clemson, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech have extended early scholarship offers, while plenty of other schools are showing interest.
“Kansas, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Butler, and Creighton are showing a lot of interest. There are a lot of other schools, too,” he explained.
As of now, the rangy shooter has one more visit planned. He will make the short trip to Tallahassee on October 31st to see Florida State.
After that, Wilkes will begin to look to the high school season. Winter Park is known as a traditional power in the Sunshine state, and he expects to compete this year as well.
“I like really big rings,” Wilkes laughed. “I just want another one.”
