Travis Atson has visits in mind
One of the toughest wing players in the 2016 on the east coast, Travis Atson brings a bevy of abilities to the backcourt each time out on the hardwood. Standing at 6-foot-4 and with some New York grit to him, the PSA Cardinals product is able to do a plethora of things for you and because of it, has seen a quality recruitment up until now.
Playing on the Nike circuit this past summer for the PSA Cardinals squad alongside the likes of Villanova commit Omari Spellman, Virginia commit Ty Jerome, and recent St. John’s commit Kassoum Yakwe, Atson didn’t always receive the attention that he may have gotten if he would have played on a less talented squad. However, that didn’t stop him from producing on the floor as he averaged over seven points and three boards per game, while knocking down 80-percent of his foul shot attempts.
His stats might not jump out to you immediately, but as you watch the Brooklyn native, it is hard to not appreciate what he brings to the floor. He is willing to get up and defend whoever he is put onto, can stretch out the defense with the deep ball whenever his feet are set, and has some major explosion to him at the basket. Throw it all together and Atson is the ideal four-year glue guy who can win you many games due to his competitive nature.
Heading to Notre Dame Prep this fall for his year senior of play, Atson recently took his first official visit to UC-Santa Barbara two weeks back and was more than impressed with the west coast program. “It was amazing. I liked how the coaches were so real about everything and the players were really cool. They accepted me like I was part of the team already.”
After returning from the Big West program, Atson has two other visits in mind. “I am going to Tulsa on September 18 and most likely am going to DePaul the following week, but it’s not locked in yet.”
Still open to the process but hearing the most from the three aforementioned programs, the tough and aggressive senior has a solid feel for what he is looking for in a school. “I need to have a great relationship with the coaches and a few of the players. I want to play right away and be an impact player at a place where they can work with me in getting me to the NBA.”
Planning to sign before the start of his prep season in November, whichever home that Atson calls fit should expect an immediate contributor though the New Yorker’s energy levels, toughness, and scoring abilities off the bounce.
