Rhode Island stays hot, lands Jeff Dowtin
No one has been hotter on the recruiting trail than the Rhode Island Rams. Dan Hurley and his staff have landed four recruits over the past four weeks and on Sunday, they solidified their class with a quality scorer of the ball in Jeff Dowtin.
After picking up three commits from three big men within the past 20 days, Jeff Dowtin is the lone backcourt commit who brings a wealth of versatility in the backcourt. Standing at 6-foot-3, the St. John’s College High standout can play both on and off the ball and doesn’t find problems in hitting the mid-range jump shot and with a hand in his face.
While he was oftentimes was overshadowed on his travel team with the DC Blue Devils squad running alongside Markelle Fultz, a top-10 recruit headed to the University of Washington next season, Dowtin was still capable of displaying his worth at either guard spot out top. He rarely ever plays outside of himself and while he has played prominently off the ball during his upbringing, the DMV recruit spoke on how the staff sees him fitting at URI. “Being a point guard and a floor general where I can lead the team and get others involved.”
After visiting Wichita State and George Mason, Dowtin spoke on the vibe that he got from the A10 program that made it feel like home during his official visit this past weekend. “The coaching staff and players have such a close bond and great chemistry with each other.”
“They know what it takes to get the win and so it’s the perfect spot for me.”
Fully confident on his future setting over the next four years, Dowtin might be the cherry on top to a quality 2016 class at Rhode Island, chalk full of potential, size, long-term capabilities, and immediate production come next winter.
