Koby McEwen commits to Utah State

After taking a visit to Utah State this past weekend, Koby McEwen felt it was time to end his recruitment by committing to the Aggies. The 6-foot-3 guard was a major standout this past August at the Adidas Nations event in Long Beach, California, where he averaged 21 points, five boards, three steals, and 2.8 assists against some of the best talent from across the globe.

While visits were lined up in the coming weeks to see Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, and one to Miami, McEwen just felt it was the time to call it a day. “It is a winning program where I can make an impact from day one. Plus, it is in the Mountain West Conference that plays my style.”

McEwen spoke further on his future home and what sold him. “I like the coaching staff and the facilities and everything felt good.”

The MWC program was one of the first programs on him and while they were the second school to get him on campus for an official visit after having seen Wake Forest two weeks back, one thing really jumped off the pages for McEwen, thus leading to an easy commitment. “Everyone is crazy about their basketball. It’s wild!”

Beating out four high-major programs for McEwen is a major coup for the local talent at Wasatch Academy, and while the Canadian guard may need a little bit of time in getting adjusted in college, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities for the 6-foot-3 guard to make a giant impact during his freshman year of play in Logan.
