Kevin Morris planning official visits, has timetable

2016 Dothan (AL) big man Kevin Morris had one of the best summer travel seasons in the Southeast. His play and hard work didn’t go unnoticed either. He currently has 22 scholarship offers and is trying to move swiftly through the recruiting process.

Morris has yet to take an official visit, but he has used a couple of unofficial visits. He has made trips to Murray State, Charlotte, and South Alabama recently.

“I have official visits set up to Tulsa October 2nd and Murray State October 10th,” he told HoopSeen.com. “I’m thinking about going to Louisiana Tech and I may take an official back to South Alabama.”

The 6-foot-8 big man was on campus at South Alabama over the weekend. It was a unique experience for the senior.

“It was fun all-around. It was one of the best visits as far as showing love. I got to see the campus and hang out with the players. It was really fun.”

Morris is intrigued by how the in-state school fits with him.

“South Alabama is close to home, but not too close. It’s not like I’m in my own backyard. I like that. The coaches have told me that I could be the guy to help change South Alabama basketball. I could be the piece they’re missing. That’s the same with Murray State and Tulsa. They’ve been telling me the same thing,” he explained.

Morris took a visit to Murray State last month during alumni weekend. School wasn’t in session, but he got a little bit of a feel for the campus and program.

“I like how everything is laid out on the campus. Everything is cool. From a basketball standpoint, they’re already winning. I would just be a piece added to the puzzle. They’ve shown me how I would fit in and I think it would be a perfect fit.”

Tulsa is a wild card in Morris’ recruitment. He doesn’t know much about the school or the program, but he is eager to see what they have to offer.

“I’ve talked to the coaches, but I don’t know much about Tulsa. I want to learn more about it. That’s why I’m taking that visit.”

With a month until his official visits begin, Morris will have to go through the schools recruiting him and cut his list down, followed by a decision. He has a plan in mind.

“After I come back from my Murray State visit I want to cut things down, and then commit two or three weeks after that. I’m not sure if I’m going to sign early, though,” he said.

For now, things will stay busy with Morris. South Alabama, Tulsa, and Murray State, along with others, are expected to be at his school Wednesday. Murray State head coach Matt McMahon is scheduled to do an in-home visit with him Sunday.
