Kevin Knox becomes a wanted man
In the 2017 class, there aren’t many more versatile, high-ceiling forwards in the land than Kevin Knox. The 6-foot-8 forward out of the state of Florida was one of the quickest risers during the travel circuit this past summer and now stands within the top-10 of our 2017 class rankings. After a busy few months on the Nike circuit, Knox has been able to settle down a bit before seeing things ramp back up again in the coming weeks.
When it comes to bouncy, lively, and high-energy forwards, many fail to touch what Kevin Knox brings to the floor. Attending Tampa Catholic High School, the junior had quite the showing running with the Each 1 Teach 1 crew, alongside such others as Jon Isaac, a Florida State commit, Tony Bradley, a UNC commit, and Maverick Rowan, an NC State commit and reclass who will suit up for the Wolfpack this year. While being the youngest man on his loaded squad, Knox developed overnight it seemed, where he improved his jumper month by month, floated above the rim for highlight dunks and putbacks, and even showed the ability to lead and run the break appropriately.
On the EYBL circuit, Knox averaged just over seven points per game while nailing over half of his shot attempts. He isn’t a guy that relies on scoring the ball to do most of his work, rather his energy and production near the basket, like his rebound per every two minutes played, shows his long-term value as a well-rounded ballplayer. Quickly rising up the rankings, Knox spoke on the whirlwind of a summer that it was. “It was amazing to see my name get higher in the rankings. It just proves that my hard work is paying off but I still have more spots to take.”
Invited to the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Minicamp at the beginning of next month in Colorado Springs, Knox was more than thrilled to get another opportunity to compete against some of the best from the prep ranks. “It is just another great opportunity for me to show off my talents.”
Patterning his game after Kevin Durant, the 6-foot-8 pogo stick has settled in for a solid run with his Tampa Catholic squad for this coming season. While Georgia and Duke were in to see him last week, UNC assistant Steven Robinson, Duke assistant Nate James, Florida State assistant’s Stan Jones and Dennis Gates, along with Virginia Tech head coach Buzz Williams, were all in this morning for the elite talent.
With no visits planned ahead, Knox was asked on whom he is hearing the most from at the current moment. “UNC, Florida State, Georgia, and Duke,” was his response, not a surprise seeing just how talented the forward is who already carries offers from programs such as Florida, Florida State, Maryland, LSU, and his most recent coming from Wake Forest last week.
Heading into his junior campaign, while a commitment is far from near, it would seem that Kevin Knox is the name to known as in being the guy in the 2017 class out of the Sunshine State.
