Jamal Johnson makes SEC trips, plans one more
2016 Birmingham (AL) Spain Park combo guard Jamal Johnson has been putting some mileage on the car over the past few weeks. With some dead-time before the high school season begins, the junior has made it a priority to see several college campuses.
This past weekend, he saw Georgia on Friday and Ole Miss and Saturday. A week or so before, he made the short trips to Alabama and Auburn.
Johnson broke down each visit with HoopSeen.com.
Georgia: “Georgia was great. We toured the campus and ate at one of the school’s largest cafeterias. I got to hang out with some of the incoming freshmen and watched them go through workouts. I also stopped at the academic center and met with the trainer. It was a really good experience.”
Ole Miss: “Ole Miss was great, too. We toured the campus and got to see the world-famous Grove. I met with Coach [Andy] Kennedy and we went to the football game.”
Alabama: “I talked to Coach Avery [Johnson] for a while and toured the campus and watched the workouts. It was good.”
Auburn: “At Auburn, there were a bunch of recruits there in my class. It was a big recruiting weekend. Some of the guys played against the Auburn players and they toured us around campus.”
Johnson also made a trip to Vanderbilt last month. He also plans to make at least one more trip to an SEC school.
“I’m going to LSU September 19th,” he informed HoopSeen.com.
With the majority of his offers coming from the SEC, it’s not a surprise to see Johnson making unofficial visits. Alabama, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, UAB, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, and Wake Forest have offered to this point.
“A lot of the schools I visited are supposed to be coming to see me this month. Alabama, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Ole Miss, UAB, Mississippi State, Stanford, and LSU have said they are coming.”
Johnson is currently nursing an injured groin that has kept him away from the court, but he will be good to go when the high school season begins next month.
