Jalen McDaniels commits to San Diego State
Jalen McDaniels was one hot name on the recruiting trail this past July. He entered the month as a relative unknown, even by those amidst his region on the west coast, but supplanted himself as a fast-rising, high ceiling forward who has his best days ahead of him on the playing floor. After getting a feel for the campus two weeks back, the Federal Way High product ended things in selecting a highly successful program within the Mountain West Conference.
Steve Fisher has been known for his ideology set at San Diego State and the type of ballplayers that have become so successful at the MWC program. Long, rangy, wiry, and active on both ends of the floor, while they haven’t been the most electric on the offensive end of the floor, the winning program has stamped their name on the defensive end in shutting down driving lanes to the basket and in protecting the rim once the penetration is able to get to the basket.
A few minutes of watching Jalen McDaniels and it would seem the Washington native was built with Fisher in mind, which they sold the state of Washington native on during his visit. “They told me that I fit them perfectly with how they play which will let me have the freedom of just being myself on the court. They also told me that they have won with the type of guys like me, which they have.”
Due to the physical makeup and build of the Seattle Rotary product, McDaniels gave an easy answer and insight as to why he picked the program. “I know by going there, I will be able to play and help them score because that’s something that they are lacking.”
The high upside forward spoke further on the vibe that he got during his visit to the west coast program. “The best thing was that I felt like I knew the guys for years and we just got along so well. It felt like we were all family and they never did anything without each other.”
While it has been a crazy summer for the rangy senior forward, things settled down a bit as the Aztecs, Washington, Arizona State, and Texas all were in good positioning for a commitment out of the west coast recruit. However, Wednesday evening allowed for San Diego State to bring in another long-term grab for Fisher and his crew for what should enable further success in March.
